THIS WEEK IN DERBY SWAG - MIDWEST GERBY GIRL SUMMIT EDITION
Back into the swing of things after tax season. The Glass City Rollers hosted their third annual Midwest Derby Girl Summit on April 28, hosting the Sandusky Rollergirls, Border City Brawlers (Windsor, ON) and the Rollergirls of Central Kentucky (Lexington, KY). For the first time, all participating teams brought merch to sell.
I was able to pick up items from both R.O.C.K. and the Border City Brawlers.
Austin was expelled from Garrett High School after tweeting the F-word under his account. The school claims it was done from a school computer. Austin says he did it from home.
“If my account is on my own personal account, I don’t think the school or anybody should be looking at it. Because it’s my own personal stuff and it’s none of their business,” said Carroll.
“I totally didn’t agree with what Austin said but I didn’t agree with an expulsion either. I mean if they suspended him for 3 days or something, I would be fine with that but to kick him out of school, his senior year, 3 months to go, wrong,” said Pam Smith, Austin’s mother.
The principal at Garrett High School claims their system tracks all the tweets on Twitter when a student logs in, meaning even if he did tweet it from home their system could have recognized it when he logged in again at school.
I’m pretty sure I’ve said this. My attempts at working out rarely make me anything other than angry and frustrated, mostly because I just can’t do stuff.
I don’t understand how anyone feels good after a workout, because I’m pretty sure I’ve never felt it.

This week in Derby Swag - Fort Wayne/Toronto/Eastside edition:
I got to announce the Glass City Rollers’ bout against the Eastside Derby Girls of Roseville, MI. I picked up a program, sticker, and pin.
I also attended Fort Wayne’s bout against the CN Power from Toronto Roller Derby. Toronto brought a decent array of merch, including their slickly-produced program and an assortment of pins, stickers, and t-shirts. Fort Wayne introduced the really cool dark gray ringer tee as well as a set of playing cards.
It’s that time again….for the WFTDA Demographic and Tournament Surveys. Please take some time to fill them out.
I have one complaint - no space to offer your own ideas for improving the sport and its promotion.
What I would like to see : a central WFTDA database, showing current charter rosters and links to bout stats.
Taking care of your existing fans shouldn’t be construed as “selling out.”
